Konig (German for "King") was born in Germany, the son of Matcho Son, a well-known Grand Prix jumper from the line of Baden Wurttemberg. He is Hanoverian and Trekaner.
He was schooled through Intermediate 1 in Germany, and then sold and brought to the United States at 9 years old. Six months later his owner turned him into an insurance company which paid out a very large claim - he was said to be lame, dangerous, and stupid.
No one could have guessed how my life would change from the day Konig came into my life. He litterally found me. I came home one day and he was standing in my driveway... he had escaped the abandoned pasture he had been left in and was standing in front of my barn. When I discovered an insurance company legally owned him and that he was destined for slaughter, I intervened and he was donated to SCR.
At the same time. an amazing person also found me and came into my life. Leslie Armstrong, a skilled dressage rider, took Konig and I under her wing and taught us much of what we know. We are forever grateful for the time Leslie gave us that enabled Konig and I both to overcome many physical and mental obstacles. Leslie introduced us to another key person in our lives, Sandra Tillman, a very talented dressage trainer from Germany. Sandra has worked with Konig and I throughout the years, sharing her amazing gift! As it turns out, we discovered that she lived just a mile from Konig in Germany. Talk about a small world! She was able to reunite us with his original owner and find out more of his history.
Konig is the most brilliant horse I have ever met. He is capable of upper-level dressage as well as numerous hilarious tricks which he loves to perform. He finds great joy in entertaining people by counting out simple math equations with his hoof, bowing like the King he is - and he will warm your heart with his famous crazy face and smile.
My love for this horse grows deeper each day!
